Me and a friend of mine(drives a blue 02' WRX) went to Commerce tonight to run some 1/4 miles...Good times.... I didn't do nearly as well as I should have, but considering it was my first time doing a 1/4 mile and from what I heard from everyone else I was talking to, It's a crappy track(high elevation, no grip..) Anyway, heres my times....don't laugh too hard.... 1st run... vs. a stock civic r/t =.875 60'=2.10 1/4=14.74 @ 92.01mph civic = 17.29 @ 79mph 2nd run....vs Dodge Viper with a supercharger that the guy said had 800+HP r/t =.473 60'=1.98 1/4=14.47 @ 92.6mph Viper = 16.5 @ 76mph(serious malfunctions!!!) 3rd run...vs. a 2004 Mustang GT with bolt ons... r/t =.716 60'=2.04 1/4=14.75 @ 91.41mph Mustang = 15.16 @ 94.34mph(missed 2nd...boo hoo!) All good times, really fun.... 1st run...went good, couldn't see the civic after launch.... shitty reaction time.... 2nd run...was nervous racing a superViper.... he ran a 16.5 1/4... talked to him earlier and he said he couldn't get traction no matter what he did...I think he just gave up and coasted and got a 16.5....bastard....anyways...I beat a Viper!!!!! j/k 3rd run...ok run.. beat a Mustang GT by a car length or so... Overall...not really happy with my times, I feal I should have been able to get into the 13's. I just was having some trouble with learning the lights and learning how to launch my car. In the year I've owned the car I've probably only tried to launch it 2 times. Then getting used to the lights when u get up there. I was never ready to go when the yellows started to drop... so when they did I was reving towards 5g's and not really ready to go... I found my buddy with a 94 vette while I was down there and he said he was running high 13's when he usually runs mid 12's. There were 2 other wrx's, 1 sti, 1 srt/4, 2 golf R32's, 1 evo and a million mustangs of varying years/models...no one seemed to be running very well... Still fun though, I say we make a GTG there soon...
Mustangs just hate the fact that we are faster tjan them. I beat he didn't miss 2nd, thats the same thing I said when my mustang got bet by a SVT contur V8. Plus the rear end of a stang is hard as hell to keep planted, even the V6 will get way lose under throttle. Those are not bad times thuo, and as for a GtG their sounds like a plan to me:bigthumb:
definitely will plan a g2g at commerce... remember the dsm club is having one at silver dollar in a week
I use to be a ski instructor at callaway gardens in columbus ga. While working their ford brought the svt f150 and a couple concepts. The svt conture was one of the concepts with a V8. I guess the V8 didn't make it to production . All I know is it blisterd my 99 mustang GT.
first time I took the wrx to commerce last year, a chevy next to me caught fire in the staging lanes. O_O someone yelled 'Extinguisher!' from the other side of the fence, I bolted for it, jumped to the top of the fence to get it, sprinted back to the car and met someone else with one too. We suffocated it, but I was a moron and got too close, ended up getting a lungful. that was more exciting than the 4 runs I got in... I'd love to go back and improve my launch.
For the first time out, you did great man! Don't sweat it. I ran high 15s on my first run when I was bone stock. It's all about the launch...once you get that down, it's like magic! And there's definitely some pressure to deal with at first with all the lights, not knowing where to stage up, etc. But, after a few runs, you'll figure it out and you'll be flying down the track! I'm definitely down with a G2G at the track sometime after May!
I definately want to run at the track with the new transmission and see if I can pick up any quicker times than with the automatic. Hoping for low 13s still.
We should definetely get everyone down there, I want to go again bad(and redeem myself....) If we do it, I say we get there early...they open at 5:30pm. I got there at 7:45 and I was only able to get 4 runs in by 10:30. I've heard If you get there early you can do run after run. The only problem with this is getting anywhere at 5:30 is impossible with the traffic. So my idea is to leave way early(around 2 or 2:30). We'd get 2 commerce around 4pm. I know thats early but I figure we'd just have a late lunch and bs for a minute and we'd be ready 2 race at 5:30. It'd be really cool to show up with the 20+ WRX's/STI's we had at dyno day...show those mustangs who's boss...Not to mention its more fun to race friends than someone you don't know. It's also a good gauge to see how everone runs with varying levels of modifications(with that many cars, I figure you can eliminate some of the drivers skill factor). Not to mention as the night gets later you wait in line for 20+ minutes and it'd be cool and make it go faster to have a big group of people to bs with.... I'm down 4 whenever...hopefully sooner, than later...
cool... i'll try to plan somethng in the next couple weeks... also is there a tacomac near the track :tasty:
