Looking for someone that would be able to Clear my Headlights for some cash. Alpharetta/Roswell Area. Let me know if anyone is interested
If you want, just wait till the next install day and someone will be able to help you with this for free
yeah that's good idea.....there's tons of people that would gladly help you for free at an install day......
yeah i'm down for that. I really wana do it to mine but want someone there that has done it before...
we are thinking of doing the install days on a quarterly basis... that allows: 1) time for more members to collect more parts 2) time for us to collect money to provide food for the event 3) time for me to recover from the hangover i got at the last install day we'll post up when the next one is planned
I've done two 05 legacy's and two 04 wrx's, if you guys need another hand, let me know. Heres a couple pix. One of my leggy and one of an 04 wrx i did.
Yep, just wait for the next install day, which should be soon, and I would be glad to help out with that. I have done that with assistance with my last WRX. Mark
I wish I had had someone around when I did mine. It turned out great but the process would have been so much easier if someone had been there giving me pointers.
unfortuneatly its looking like not until the 15th of april. but it will be much easier to do with people that can give you tips first hand. vote here to make it earlier. http://www.wrxatl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5393
I did mine the other night in under an hour, it was pretty simple. For those of you that want directions: 1. Obviously, take out your headlights. 2. Take out all the bulbs 3. I took off the wiring harness from the back- 2 screws 4. preheat oven to 250 and bake for 15 min. I did both at the same time, you just have to work quickly before they cool 5. pull apart your lights at one end using your hands and then once its started use a screw driver to poke the tabs that hold the light together 6. once apart take out the amber 7. if you are blacking them remove the chrome blinker insert 8. using low gloss engine paint from autozone/wal-mart paint the insert. it takes about 2-3 minutes to dry 9. put blinker housing back into headlight cover 10.scrape excess sealant from around edges of light using an exacto knife 11.this is where it gets messy: bake the lights one at a time for another 15 min. 12. once light is finished heating up you will need to reseal it. Using black high temp rtv found at advanced/autozone, the one that looks like caulk called super bead or something. it has a trigger on it that you press and it leaves a straight line bead, go all the way around the housing. 13. press the light together making sure all tabs are locked, I recommend wearing some gloves for this. I still have that crap all over me 14. let set and you are done. Its pretty straight forward once you get them apart just have some quick set plastic weld handy in case you break a tab or something. Hope this helps those of you that are adventurous
Alex and I have found that if you squeez the two half of the light together before the second baking the seal is much better, once they are warm press them together firmly and you should have no leaks, thats the way we have one it at two install days and numerous headlights. We have yet to use any extra sealent.
I went ahead and resealed mine, but I've also read where people just reused the sealant. I guess if you want to be double sure, then reseal it. That was my first foray into taking headlights apart; so I was a little worried about not resealing them.
I did mine last night but I didn't bake them the 2nd time, I'm I going to be ok???? I did put some sealent on it though
the problem is there might not be a big enough hole to draw water in but when it gets real ot out side you will start to get condensation.
yeah when i did mine....I used extra sealant just to be sure it was sealed....kinda nervous it was my first time and i was by myself so..... hnoes: :sx:
Like Alex said, we have yet to use sealant and we have baked (between him, myself and Bret), prob over 20+ pairs of lights. The trick we figured out is reassmble the housing when the glue is still warm, and screw it down. Throw it back into the oven and let it heat up some more (5 mins or so), then pull it out and screw down more. You should notice that as it cmoes out of the oven, you are able to tighten the housing down ever more so. We generally do this 2-3 times per light.
