Warning: This question probably will not be the smartest one that I've ever asked...

Regarding transmission mounts: I can feel a lot of movement in my transmission and I'm wondering what the performance benefits of better bushings would be. So the question is what if any are the downsides of installing better bushings on the tranny in terms of longevity?

And does Subaru skimp on the bushings for money's sake or do the soft factory bushings have a lasting benefit?

you should check out the Kartboy tranny bushings at Sakari. Add the group N mount and those bushings and that will stiffen it up. downsides: none. Upside: you don't lose that hp to the drivetrain & bushings won't wear out. mine were horrible when I looked at them the other day. this upgrade is in my near future.

yea i did the group N tranny mount and kartboy shifter bushing at the same time..made a very nice improvement over the stock feel..I recommend it for a small cheap mod

What about in car vibrations? A friend of mine with a Protege had done some tranny mounts and now if he puts any change in his cupholders etc... all you can hear is rattling.

I've got the shifter bushings, transmission mount, motor mounts, and most of my rear suspension stuff has been converted to pillowball joints.

The shifter bushings and transmission mount made zero noise but did improve the feel. Same thing for the motor mounts.

The one that has increased driveline noise are the rear outrigger bushings on the diff crossmember. That + a lightweight flywheel = driveline noise.

The other rear suspension stuff (lateral links, trailing links, diff bushings) did not make any real change in the noise but did tighten up the rear end nicely.

I've personally got front and rear shifter bushings. And those made a world of difference. I've also driven in a car that has those bushings AND the transmission mount and transmission bushings. That was pure shifting sex.

Yeah man. I'm really getting tired of the sloppy feel in the the stick. Not losing power to soft bushings and mounts would be fun too.
