can someone descibe what a wastegate flutter feel or sounds ?
    When does it normally happen
and is there a detrimental effect if not adjusted and is there an effect if adjusted ?

    thanks

I here my wastegate from by downpipe that has a divorced wastegate pipe. It just kind of sounds like a birdie in my engine bay. I thought it was just normal because there is no plate behind it now and it can run more smoothly. Also, I am under the impression that because of the uneven exhaust flow (due to the headers) both the turbo and wastegate get a exhaust pulse at low rpm's. Like when I look at my boost gauge when I am light on the throttle it flutters in vacuum.

mine flutters.....I don't have headers though...Is this something that's problematic?

The fact that the stock headers are uneven cause it to flutter. This is not problematic. The exhaust pulses from uneven headers I believe causes the flutter.

You can cure it somewhat by tightening the WG arm a bit if it's the stock turbo.

would this be a good idea for someone who has no clue about what they are doing though?

It's one of those things that's really hard to screw up unless you're COMPLETELY clueless.

    Braided fishing line
I always try to use a fishing line if i can tie it on to any part that will pop and i still can find it if it pops

Turbo equipped race cars make a hellova loud flutter that kind of sounds like: shika tika tika tika tika tika tika tika!!! And that is probably not good for economy or longevity, but I'm sure our quiet little flutters are no problem.

    Sounds like you're describing anti-lag systems :)

Hmm. Could be I guess. I've never heard one in person and what you hear on TV could sound different in person. I know that some of the Formula D cars were making some really loud flutters last weekend.

Mm, hmm. They're something all right. I still can't get that one S13 out of my head, that had the super loud spool up n' stuff. That and the Viper pretty much killing everybody on the tandem events. Hubinette should've won IMO.

Mine flutters when I hit 22 psi. It sounds like a pshsttt phsstt pshsst. For the longest time I thought it was the BOV but nope SS confirmed it's my WG. Deadbolt's WG for the 18g is loud. All my buddies around here love it when they are driving in front of me. Claim all they hear is that turbo spooling with the WG flutter at full boost. I have to sometime get a vid and see if I can capture the sound.

The flutters at Formula D were either rev limiters or my favorite the Greddy BOV.

Mine did make the noise till I got AP. Then just the sweet turbo made a beautiful whistle.
