when im staring out in 1st gear in my wrx i get a loud scratching, noise like metal on metal. i am pretty sure it is a bearing. it is my every day driver so i cant afford alot of downtime so im seeing if anyone knows what it would be. it only makes noise when releasing the clutch or riding it out. if i rev match in any gear but rev a little higher than where the rpms are then you canhear it in every gear. sitting still it doesnt make any noise with the clutch fully disengaged or pushing it in or out, just mainly when you are taking off from a stop. would this be the pilot bearing or something like that. i dont think it would be the release or throwout bearing since it isnt doing it at idle with the clutch disengaged. anyways if anyone know what the problem might be please help me out. thanks \brett

well we pulled the tranny tonight to find the clutch is shot along with the pp and flywheel. it was a 6puck but the pad was down to scraping the rivots that hold it in. i dont know how it wasnt slipping but it held great. im installing a sti 6speed flywheel and clutch into my 5mt tomorrow. ill let everyone know how it goes. later

sorry guys the digital camera is out of order and i didnt have anything to do it with but im going to get a lighter flywheel later on so i will take pics then. i got the clutch pp flywheel to bearing and pilot bearing from kingpin performance for 400 shipped overnight o my house from az. they are used but still in really good shape. mine has almost new clutch pad on it. the install is not as bad as i thought. pull the tranny and grind some tabs down on the inside of the bellhousing to make it fit b/c the sti flywheel is larger than the wrx one. other than that, it is a direct bolton. took me about 8 hours start to clean up and that is the first tie ive ever pulled the tranny. i bought a subaru shop manual cd off of ebay and it has step by step instructions. if you have any questions, feel free to ask. it is finally driving like a dream now b/c it had the spec lightened flywheel, spec 6puck clutch and pp but the only thing that was holding on the clutch was the rivots, so i dont know how it wasnt slipping.

this is the part to grind. it is the tabs on the inner bellhousing and a little by the starter hole and the dust vent on the bottom. ill post pics of my old clutch when i can get my cam working. btw you have to use the sti flywheel with the sti clutch or vice versa with wrx.
