alrighty, so I was looking at the cobb tuning web site and looked at their "stage 2" options. Which is just a turbo back exhaust and tuning. that results in 285 hp and 224 to the wheels. My car must have had this set up or something similar when i purchased it. BUT long story short, after a legality ordeal about emissions, I ended up losing the exhaust and not keeping it (dad pays for insurance and thus wants to keep everything 100% legal and I did not know much at the time about fixing a CEL or even keeping the exhaust). And my ECU was reset afterwards since i needed to replace the whole dash console with the speedometer and tach. As a result, I know for a fact now that my car has a stock exhuast, without the axel back (since i took it off and have no axel back on the car at the moment), and stock ECU management. On dyno day back in October however, I put down 212 to the wheels which is about 42 more than stock wheel horse power. and pretty close to a "stage 2" power reading. Unfortunately for me, I have just recently started really getting into cars and do not know much about working on them or checking to see what's workinng properly, and see if I have any other aftermarket parts. The only thing I know that is aftermarket is my intake, which is an AEM cold air intake. So was that dyno reading really high? Is there something more done to my car that I should look for? The reason I ask is because I was thinking that eventually once i can afford it, get a new/used Turbo Back Exhuast and tune with Ecutek and was thinking numbers I would be expected to put down. I will also be at the install day. Thanks for any help and tips, <3 matt
not all engines are going to always put out the exact same number all of the time. variences are the norm. i as many others that were there at the dyno day were very pleasantly surprised from your #'s and i just figured that you had some sort of a reflash that you didn't know about. did you change the ECU to a new stock one? that just sounds weird. its hard to say without you or anyone else knowing the previous history of the car before you got it. heck, you could have a deadbolt PnP'd stock turbo and didn't even know it
I had 212whp with just my scoobysport tbe and a aem cai. you may not have any cats, where did you get the "stock exhaust"? Doug said with ecutek he could add another 30whp and if you replace the up pipe add another 10hp.
I take that back, you would be throwing cells w/out the fix, nevermind. Who knows, just be happy it already puts down 212
Without knowing the history, its quite impossible. The other Alex's old WRX had a gutted uppipe and a sti axelback and put down like 204 210ish...this was quite shocking to most people. Perhaps your cars are just 2 factory freaks?
SoG gave me the stock exhuast and told me the ECU was reset. It was sent to SoG after the dealership I bought the car from decided to try a third party repair shop which they ended up taking my AVC-R, S-AFC II, and turbo timer (which I didn't know I had other than the AVC-R) but went back for the AVC-R since my speedometer broke and I could use the AVC-R to monitor my speed. I bought the car in Hall County back when they did not require emissions (now they do, don't they?). It came with stock axel back, but it had gutted pips, and i'm not sure about the up-pipe. And I don't think a CAI would give much hp gain? and wanna help me out with your free carmax report? the car has 12 reports.
Matt, What was the production date on your car? I've heard of a lot of early model 02s dynoing above the norm.
mine was made in like june of 01 or something crazy like that and i have no engine management and i put 220 down and 229tq with tbe, uppipe, pullies, drop in filter, and turbo inlet. I dont have engine management either. Also Look at how much Brett put down with only a catback and intake? i thought the numbers were rather high as well.
Your doorjam should have the manufacturing date. I think the stamp in the engine bay might have it as well. I dont remember exactly how to decode the VIN number, I think the last 5 digits is your production number. I guess since you're number 510081 that means the 510,081 car but it might only be the 10081, I just dont remember. If I had my car I'd be able to tell since it's just a bunch of 0s ending in 792.
