I am about to order new rotors today. Going with Stoptech Slotted. I need to do the rear, and will probably do the fronts at the same time, depending on money. Question, What pads should I get? I am looking for something for normal street driving, with an occasional Auto X, and if possible, maybe 1 track event per year (Doubtful). I want something with a little more bite than stock, with minimal dusting, and minimal noise. Suggestions?
I just got the HP plus pads and if you dont want dust and noise DO NOT go with the hp plus....I will say that the inital bite is great and no fade at all! also they are VERY noise...
In my experience, any pad that is good enough for even one track day will be noisy and dusty. With my WRX, I was very happy with the Carbotech Bobcats for daily driving and autocross. On the STi, the Carbotech Panther Plus pads were awesome for daily driving and autocross, but would fade within a few laps at a track. Right now I'm running XP10 Front and XP8 rear. They are noisy.
I ran the HP+ on the STi for a week on the street and on autocross, just last week (Brian was kind enough to let me try them out). They performed fantastically over stock at the autocross...in fact, at times I was overbraking because of the increased stopping power. The performed well on the street, as well, in fact, I miss them now that the stock pads are back on. The one downside, as others have posted, is that they are noisy in that last 10-0mph of a stop. The jury is still out on what I'll have on there for the Suby Challenge... Good luck!
Just get XP12's and be done with it. lol Otherwise there is no pad thats going to fit all your requirements.
Are XP12 pads available for WRX or just for STI? What about something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBA...ryZ33564QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I know Cross Drilled Rotors aren't the best due to cracking issues, but if I am primarily just going to be driving on the street, would this be a possible option. Includes Slotted and Drilled Rotors front and rear, and Ceramic Pads front and rear, though I have never heard of the company. Ceramic would be best on the dusting issue and noise as well, right?
Just my personal opnion but I would stay away from slotted/drilled rotors...I think they eat pads quicker
Downfall to Ceramic pads is that they usually eat rotors. Dont know about noise...I do remember when NAPA came out with the 'dustless pads' aka ceramic...they were noisy as hell. They still dusted...but not pad dust...ROTOR dust. However, newer ceramic pads may be different.
Which may actually counteract the ceramic pads from eating the rotor...but since slots eat pads...most likely there will be dust either way.
I have had great customer service dealing with suby dude and they have very reasonable prices. http://www.subydude.com/osc/index.php/cPath/220_86_162?osCsid=d250ff763e00670104ccd26a6f991436
Went with your recommedation and just ordered: Street Stage Complete WRX Hawk Brake Upgrade Includes: CT721 (2002) or CT929 (2003) Hawk Performance HPS Front Pads, CT770 Hawk Performance HPS Rear Pads, Motul RBF 600 Fluid Racing Brake Front and Rear Slotted Rotors Was a little more expensive than what I wanted to spend, but seemed like a good option. Got my fingers crossed. Wish it was about $120 cheaper so I could have done Stainless Brake lines too, but guess that will have to wait a couple weeks.
Thats awesome man! Congratz. That was the exact same package I got for my wagon. I noticed a huge difference when I upgraded mine. I did the same thing as you and did the SS lines about 2 months later because of the expense.
It works really well.:rofl::rofl: I just upgraded the front pads to hp+ and hps in the back. Love the squeak and the initial bite is great on the front pads. You can really feel it. Congrats.
haha..I am sure you are enjoying them! btw oneiguy here bought Jezebel aka my old wagon. you lucky sob!
