While I make a decent salary, and certainly above average in this current climate, my company is an onsite contractor. Since the heed is our largest contract every renewal is a bit scary. Well I may have a job offer to work directly for the heed which should be very stable for some time to come and would have a great opportunity to bank in the future as I would be on the inside...It is much easier to move around under those circumstances. BUT to start I would have to take about a 10K paycut not including the below which should make up some of the cut but over all less take home indeed. other things to consider Much better insurance @ 1/5th the cost 401K that matches and has much better investment options FAR LESS physical labor (right now the shit work is for the contractors but we get paid to do it) same vacation time 3 weeks but can accumulate and pay out if not used Flex schedule still get every other friday off So what should I do? Make the jump and look to the future or hold out for something better?
I would take the pay cut simply for the increase in benefits at a less cost to you. Once your amortize the benefits I think you'll see the 10,000 loss as a positive ROI.
I am thinking for my particular situation I will probably make the jump and since I have been trying to get in for quite some time holding out may be a bit longer than I want.
make the jump... I'm in your position, possibly taking a 50% pay cut here. I interview next week with Lockheed down in Kings Bay, but I doubt they're going to pay me what I want to live down there. The job's badass, and I'll get top secret DoD clearance, which will open up soo many doors. Decisions, decisions...yours is easy - at least you'll be working at the one by home.
no options that I know of actually there has been no offer yet but I know the cap and know (from an insider)that I will get an offer. Definitely not doing anything this year as I have several others prospects that may pay more than I make so I will at least give those a chance. Drew - as much as we would hate to loose you it would not take long to get back here. Same applies once you are in jumping around is easy.
