So my front left wheel has been squealing some when I turn my steering wheel. However, just yesterday, my car started to click/pop quite loudly from the left wheel when I am driving and turn the steering wheel to the right. I got under my car and it seems that where the axle meets the wheel, there is a little excess movement and when I have the wheels turned to the right and turn the wheels myself, it will make a popping noise. I can grab the axle here and move it around a little bit, where I can't do the same to the right one. Do you think my wheel bearing is going bad or is it possibly something else? For reference, my car has about 107,000 miles on it and the only thing I've replaced around that area before is a front knuckle on the right wheel.
half shaft?? Put it up on jackstands and grab the wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions. Try wiggling it that way. That should tell you pretty quick if you've got a bad bearing.
I wiggled it and it doesn't do anything, so I guess it's not the wheel bearing. I need to check out the braking system and look around. Or, I should just go and do a search on NASIOC. It could just be the knuckle thing, whatever that's called. I haven't really had time to look at it due to working so much. My car's just been sitting all lonely while I've been riding my bike every day.
Definitely sounds like the axle shaft to that wheel. The CV joint is failing. Is the boot torn or do you see any grease slung under there were it is spinning?
Mine has no grease on it, but I haven't tried wiggling anything. Sorry to horn in on the conversation :3
