Is there really a difference between the 02,03 cell fixs on the market. I see the PEP and Helix for under $20 and then there's the Perrin that is $54. Will the cheapies work just fine?
Try the mechanical CEL fix before anything else. Takes 5 mins to install (if your 02 sensor readily comes out). I used to have the Perrin O2 simulator installed and it took a couple of weeks before it finally cleared the CEL but once it was gone it never came back (wired it up correctly, the LED was lit but the CEL was still there for a week or 2). I wouldnt buy it again since it was so expensive, but they claim it's the only one that will pass OBDII emissions. The other MIL eliminators (COBB, etc) work for removing the CEL but when it comes time for emissions your ECU reads that there are no cats installed and you get a "Not Ready for Emissions" code or something.
When you install the fix, be sure to clear the code. It will save you a lot of time. Just disconnect the battery and push the brakes for a few seconds.
If you are only getting the P0420 just go to Pep Boys, Auto zone, Advanced or ANY of those places and get the $4.30 "HELP!" brand "Spark Plug Arrestor" part number 42002. It comes with 2 arrestors. Drill out one of them with a 1/2" drill bit. Screw the *REAR* O2 sensor (the one in the mid-pipe, NOT the header) into the drilled arrestor, then screw that into the other one, then screw the whole thing into the mid-pipe where is came out. Voila - no P0420. Then come buy me a burritto SS
thanks for the info guys, I went ahead and purchased one from Gruppe-S yesterday. Good price and easy to install. $14
