I'm sure this will spark much debate but I'm looking to do a turbo upgrade. First of all let me state what I want to get out of it and what I have done so far. I have a 03 2.0L which has headers/uppipe, 3" turboback, CAI, Large TMIC, Boost Controller(set 18psi spike, 16psi to redline), 1 step colder plugs, also have 650cc injectors(not installed), and a 255LPH fuel pump(not installed) Now what I want is good quick power when I want it and complete drivablity when I want it, and a bolt up turbo upgrade. Right now I am leaning toward a standard bearing 18g, but I was wondering if it is worth it to go with a 20g style ball bearing? I guess the best question is does like say the Blouch Dominator 3.0XT-R(or similar turbo) have the same spool time as say the Blouch TD05H-18G(or similar turbo). Or if the answer is no then is the top end power worth the added spool but still remaining drivable in downtown traffic?
20G or FP 68HTA (I hate FP personally) ONLY if you plan to do a block swap in the future. If not, 18G get the billet comp wheel option, you will spool faster than a standard 18G. I have had a vf39 and 18G, the spool is identical but you make more power with the 18G. worked 18G is my choice. EDIT: here is the link to my last tune and many, many dyno graphs ALL 18G's. All but 1 (runfile 018) are with meth. http://wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25898
my setup is similar to yours (03 2.0 with a big top mount and supporting mods) and i found an evo III 16g from blouch to be a good choice for the 2.0. i run 93 pump and e85 (i can switch back and forth) i have 1000cc ID1000 injectors.. however, im very interested in this new turbo from blouch 18G-XT Turbocharger which is a step up from the e316g. might be worth your while taking a look at that. i wonder how this compares with the hta68.
Thanks for all the input guys.. lot to think about... I would love to see a comparison between the blouch 18G-XT and the 68HTA but honestly the blouch would have to blow it outa the water to make up for the price difference... Side note: if I run something bigger than the 650cc's hows the gas mileage compare as you go bigger with the injectors?
