To do satin right can cost as much as a regular paint job. It has obviously been popular in the classic hot-rod scence for decades but for some reason it was really popular with the imports last year at the SEMA show. I think the fad will die out on imports pretty quickly. But I do like that flat orange!!
I only like the Satin paint on black. All other colors, it looks like the paint is just old and lost its shine. On the black cars, it looks awesome, and makes me think Stealth.
Reminds me of the days of gigantic V8s screaming through glass packs and bad primer jobs. its been done before so, meh.:dunno They are some neat schemes though. Just not my think considering I had a "satin" paint job all through college. :ddirty:
I have loved the flat black look for the past 5 or 6 years. I particularly liked the 240sx that SCC car did with the gloss black decals. I did the reverse on my last car with gloss black and a matte black stripe.
I might be having a paint job in the near future, and I was thinking about doing satin black, but I don't think I could pull it off. I think it only works on cars that look extremely aggressive or are exotics. So I'm probably just going to do a jet black when the time comes (Goodbye blue metal flake!).
I'll bet each one of those paint jobs were "specialty" and cost extra. No way I'd pay extra for a paint job i cant use as a mirror. I think it really kills the lines of some great automobiles. That Porsche looks like *ss. ssh: Although if I had the disposible income to throw away, maybe my thoughts would be different. Anyone want to give me a couple million? I'd split it with ya! :keke:
See I like the Porsche, but I think the BMW and the R8 look like toys. But I think The Rolls is my favorite... its like Xzibit pimped darth vader's ride.
The BMW is awful with those wheels. I guess its the way I look at it, but mixing the dark satin with chrome and shine is just wierd. if you're gonna commit to a flat look, go all the way and do it right. Black the headlights and wheels. Super Stealth!
The paint shop next door to the shop has done a few, he does very nice work. The BASF satin paints are very nice.
I've liked flat black for many years. That's about it tho. And yeah, it has to be done completely to look right IMO
What about crinkle paint I know this guy who did his Civic in white so it looks and feels like a fridge
if done right i think it's damn sexy. i'd do my car tomorrow if i had the extra cash. it's a nice change from the "GLASS,GLOSSY,SHINEY" everyfuckingthingonthecar!
A good/professional one will be just as much. You could probably pull it off yourself rattle canned very carefully though for a couple hundred bucks. The Satin look is actually a satin clear coat, so its not just left flat black (or matte whatever color) and can still be cared for like a regular paint job
there is a wagon on nasioc rattle canned satin black and topped with a rattle can satin clear coat that came out suprisingly good...it was posted recently but in a quick search I couldnt find it..
I dunno about that Alex....Satin White Pearl is a sexy color...it's not the same as the blacks above, but....it is satin I like most of the pictures above.
Yup my buddy had a "69" GTO Judge. Flat orange. Muncie M22 Rock Crusher tranny, 400 big block. That thing would spin tires in every gear! Nice looken' fast car man! Flat Orange was good!
You guys should see my new paint job... its WRB with a satin pollen yellow coat, its pretty sweet....
