Well yesterday after talking to a co-worker, I got a good feeling about my choice on the WRX instead of the Civic Si I was considering before it. This co-worker is a civic-head (if that is a word) and had a very modded civic before it got stolen. I've been talking to him about modding and throwing ideas at him and yesterday when he heard I was planning to go COBB AP1 + DP + exhaust, he said, "so you're gonna change your boost right? What BOV are you gonna get?" I thought it was odd to ask that but I told him staying stock since it's good from what I read. He said, "But dude, are you sure you don't want the 'psssssAH' noise? It's sweet, music to the ear and scares people off." I was like....uhhhh...no. But he kept badgering me about getting one cause how cool it is and the noise is cool and blah blah. It just made me realize what's important to civic-heads vs WRX owners. His whole attitude was very stereo typical views American muscle car owners have towards import owners "ricers". All he was concerned about was looks and sounds rather then actual substance. I've been reading enough here and at clubwrx.net to learn that most of the owners are mature and consider their car's performance over looks. I feel I made the right decision in my purchase of the WRX and feel at home. :wiggle: :naughty: :wiggle: -Russell
That said, let's keep in mind that there are plenty of WRX owners who like the bling and the PSSSHHHT, and plenty of Honda owners that focus on performance. We're all friends.
I haven't seen any posts here or at the other forums yet in which I've seen a WRX owner posting about their car's bling look. Maybe they've been swept under the "carpet". heh..
As the price of used WRX's declines, and more people gain access to them, there is definitely a growing minority of show vs go folks showing up.
Civics are more competitive and cheaper to build for many SCCA solo II classes than WRXs or STis. The civic/crx has to be one of the most popular autox cars right after the miata. My SO's CSP crx is just as fast if not faster on the autox course than my AS Sti. I wouldn't generalize hondas as being "ricer" or show cars when I get out paxed by them in my STi.
Very true, for the most part subaru owners are about keeping the car's exterior pretty mild but doing a lot of performance stuff.
GTscoob gets what I'm talking about. M-chan, I'm not talking about the car itself, but rather the observation that a larger (much larger) percentage of civic orwners tend to fall in the "all show and no go" category. There is another guy at work who also had a civic and he's a lot more mature and married. He was interested in suspension more then anything else. His attitude was not similar to this other guy. But Belvn's observation is correct, there is probably 50:1 civic to wrx ratio on the road, meaning more chances of seeing civic ricers vs wrx ones. But as WRX get older in the states and more younger ppl can afford them in their high school and right out of it, we will see more wrxs with more looks then go. eh *shrug*
I'm sure you do. Lemme rephrase my first statement, most WRX owners like performance mods that make the car much more fun for competitive and street performance. I've said it before and I'll say it again, for a perfectly sporty daily driver the WRX is a great car. if you're wanting more than 300whp an STI is a better starting point but a mildly modded WRX is still a lot of fun. There are a lot of ricers out with WRXs, most of them arent the online messageboard type.
Then why is that there are very few WRXs at most Atlanta Region SCCA events? If WRX/STi drivers are more interested "performance" mods than civic drivers wouldn't they out number civic drivers at a perfomance driving event like autox? I've seen better turn out for local car shows than local autoxs for wrxs.
nothing wrong with a little rice my first mod for my civic was to lower it and put bigger wheels on it. Ricey? I would think so, but it handles better than the car does stock. There are a lot of ricers on this forum with their wrxs/stis, just as you would find a bunch of them on a honda forum. The percentage of ricer vs non-ricer has gone up as the prices of the car has gone down, which relates to the civic being replaced by the wrx as the tuner car of choice IMO -- Brian
