Will I run into any issues with spacers?

Looking at some 17 x 9 +44mm wheels. In order to clear my front Brembos I think I will need some 10mm spacers for the front.

1) Will I run into any issues as far as wheel bearings or anything with the spacers?

2) Will I need extended studs?

3) Will 235/40/17 tires fit on a 9" rim well or would you go wider?

Remember I have coilovers and a WRX.

I can answer #3 kinda. im running a 225 on a 8.5" wheel and it seems barley stretched. my 2 cents. oh and id go with a 30 off set for that BA aggressive look!

 

The 10mm spacer will make it a 34mm offset

With these I won't need spacers. I was looking at Work Emotion KAI +44's but that guy I'm talking to is acting shady.

 

should be fine with a +10mm up front and a 255/40/17 tire, I would throw a +5mm in the rear for a more even look with respect to the fronts

 

Yes Grids. I don't think I'm going to need any spacers at all with the Rota's as they are +38 offset.

So not to be a party pooper, but I'm really becoming discouraged with this whole low-offset, stretched tire thing making the rounds in the suby community. I feel like it often looks good, but it's a departure from the function over form mentality that I've grown so fond of over the years.

And I'm not projecting that this is the look you are going for, but I've seen this a couple times lately and it looks flat out ridiculous to me:




I'm completely alright with wide wheels, I'm just saying put a meaty tire on it to make it worth your while.



Basically, I guess to answer question 3, dehehefinetely go wider than 235s. That's a waste of a good inch of wheel.

 

well bran's car as mine is, is a wagon and we severly have limitations on tire width since we don't have the flared fenders on a sedan.

and to each their own when it comes to form or function. you might out an emohasis on function while I have a preference of form since my wagon is a pure street car that will most likely ever see any kind of track...unfortunate as that may be

 

Haha, I guess form vs. function was a little off-topic of what my actual qualm is. I definitely have appearance mods done to my car that don't enhance the performance in any way. I really just don't like stretched tires. I don't really think they succeed in either the form or function department. Especially when said tire's tread is making contact with as much ground outside of the wheel well than actually under it. Every time I see a car with a stance like that, all I can think of is:

Coolrex, go wider on the tire, make use of your sedan wheel wells.

 

I completely agree stretched tires are horrible, DONT buy a wide wheel if you're not gonna put wider tires on them. It completely defeats the purpose, if your fenders are a limitation then roll them or get a different offset. None of this halfass shit

 

Oh I'm definately going to go with something like a 255. I'm just not too sure what will be involved with making it clear. I've never rolled a fender before so naturally I'm worried that I'm going to screw up something......like i did last night when I cracked my front bumper

 

What do you guys think will look good on my Aspen White? Gold or Bronze?

 

I've always preferred bronze personally.

 

im a bronze guy too. but i think gold looks just as good if not better on aspen white. i actually plan to do gold once all is said and done with the L (which will be aspen white as well)

 

I'd go bronze, but I'd also put a gunmetal gray in there, too...I really like that look on white / ugm cars

I bit the bullet and bought some new rims since someone bought mine and this all costs me NOTHING!

I was hesitant about them but they are 1.5 lbs lighter than the Tarmac 2's. I was surprised that the Tarmac 2's were that heavy.

I'm just sick of the many spokes and I'm sick of the wheel area being so 'dark'. The polished lip and center area makes it 'pop' in my opinion.

With a 10mm spacer you WILL need extended studs.

Bearing wear is more of a grey area, my wheels were a 48mm offset. I was running a 10mm spacer up front and nothing in the rear. Taking me down to a 38mm offset. I ran that for about 5 months/10kmiles, and I had no bearing issues. It wasn't until I went to 20mm spacers up front that my (front) bearings took a dump. Now...who is to say that my bearings would not have taken a dump at the same time with just the 10mm spacers...I have no idea, but it was about another 5 months of running the 20mm up front that the bearings went.

I think that the wider you go with wheel spacers, the larger the multiplier for bearing wear.

I am not a fan of the "WIDEST TIRE POSSIBLE" club...the wider you go with your tires the heavier they will get, and the more sluggish your steering will feel. I wouldn't go any bigger than an 8 inch wheel and a 245 tire on my car, ever...but that is my opinion.
