For those who are enticed by paint jobs, I am going to be repainting one of my guitars sometime towards the end of december / janurary. I'm expecting this to be roughly a week or so long project with a good bit of work. I'm going for something crazy yet beautiful. The guitar, as it stands now, is pewter. I am hoping to source out a new creme color for the base. My question is I am curious what type of paint I should use? Im thinking some sort of acrylic base...
You might want to call a guitar repair/service shop and inquire. Since the body is a big part of the acoustics (well, not as much if it's a solidbody electric) you don't want to risk messing it up by painting it with something that'll dampen or otherwise screw up the sound. I'd wager that you would want something very hard and crisp.
Ive been doing research on the matter, most importantly it seems you do not want to over gloss (clear coat) the body. This can easily kill, muffle, stuff, the sound.
