Okay I think there is something not exactly right with my bugeye lately and sad to say probably from not driving it regularly but I will explain as best I can. Basically my car seems to only want to run at WOT (Wide Open Throttle). If for instance I come up on someone and have to maintain a steady pace 35/40 in 4th I start getting surges as if I am not holding the throttle steady. This is not limited to any gear either but mostly happens in 1-4. I have reset the ECU but nothing any clues?
Throttle body maybe? Our's are running complete opposite. At WOT mine begins dumping fuel, I need to locate the damn leak tonight before my roadtrip tomorrow.
Rick mine is doing the EXACT same thing. Only worse because in conjunction to that if I throw the car in neutral to coast to a stop sign it won't catch idle and either die or struggle immensely to catch idle. I did a boost leak test and absolutely no leaks as that was what Scott and Will first said. Tonight I'm cleaning the IACV to see if that cures it. I also have a brand spanking new front o2 sensor that is going on with the new EL headers that are coming in today. Header/o2 sensor may go on this weekend if I can get UPS to let me pick up the ceramic coating that is scheduled to be delivered Monday. Else I'll have to wait till Tuesday for that install.
and where do I find the IACV to clean it? No boost leaks here, the car will die coasting up to a light but I figured that was due to my battery needing to be replaced from sitting plugged in for months when we replaced the tranny/turbo etc...
IACV is directly on top of the intake manifold. But you 'HAVE' to have the gasket as it swells and you can never reuse it. $6 part. Here is a great writeup. Click here
thanks bro I will get a gasket and check this out. SS said my APS recirc may need more shims/springs but I wonder why it did not happen previous to this turbo.
He told me the same thing as I have the same BPV. I opened it up and it was dirty so I cleaned it. Greased it up and put in 3 quarters. No difference.
Who knows but all I know is that the car has to be 100% or SS isn't gonna be happy and neither will I.
Funny you should mention that...I had to tap into that wire for the DCCD controller. I think I will make sure nothing popped loose or maybe the g-sensor came unglued.
My IACV was filthy and it was sticking so I cleaned in gasoline. However it didn't do a dang thing......this is getting tiresome. Rick if you find out what it is please please please share.
Will let you know if I find anything but sounds like yours is worse than mine. I barely notice it plus gives me a reason to stomp on it. got the part # for that gasket? I will get it done sometime in the next week or so. Mike maybe you can do a compression test on mine.
Dalette does it sound like you have a pre-turbo exhaust leak? I swear I hear one ever so slightly but still. I wonder if this could be the cause.
I 'know' I have a pre-turbo exhaust leak. My stock headers are leaking and the EGT tap started cracking so it's trash hence why I have a set of ELH here now. I'm swapping the oil pan to the 2.5L pan and then Tuesday I am tapping the uppipe for EWG and installing the headers. I'm also replacing the o2 sensor at the same time. I don't want to install the new o2 on the messed up stock headers in fear of messing it up.
Headers and new o2 are on. My car sounds like a Honda...lol Anyways the car is still studdering and it dies if I go into neutral as it won't catch idle. However somehow my EWG is stuck open even at idle so I gotta figure that out tonight. Also I got a CEL all of a sudden...p0037 rear o2 crapped I guess. I may swap MAFs with another WRX to see if that helps. Any progress Rick? I'm sick of this.....
