Compressors out...my 04 wrx is bone stock and always has been. My local napa has the part for $150 dollars cheaper than subaru. I've always used subaru parts when replacing( just replaced radiator, thermostat, etc etc). So would you guys get the napa compressor? Im just trying to save some cash. Thanks
yes. generally stuff like this is only made by 2 big companies and re-branded anyway the subaru oem part is probably just a calsonic anyway
Napa is the one parts store you can generally count on to have quality parts. I've got a napa compressor sitting in my garage right now for my ac.
Speaking of… 7 days into our 14 day road trip (and just outside of 114º Dallas, no less) the AC decided that it's going out/is completely out in our 03 Xterra. Anybody have a hook up to help out? A shop in Austin quoted $1,400, which is just retarded.
What's out on it? Compressor? Shit, I would think you could replace every part of the AC system for $1400.
Is the compressor turning over at all? did you try putting more refrigerant in it? grab a bottle or two from any parts store and throw it in there and see if it fixes the issue (at least temporarily)
^^^if you do this just don't over pressurized it...more is not better and it'll make it fail just as bad. Most of the refill kits come with a gauge that warns via a color coded chart you when you are overfilling.
Tried the refill, and the gauge said it was already overpressurized. The shop in Austin with the insane quote fixed that for now, but it won't last much longer. I think the quote was for pretty much everything, and at double what it'd cost me to get parts myself. The compressor turns over when its not too hot out already, and blows cool at highway speed, but is making a fair amount of clicking noises, too. We have to do Houston to NOLA in the afternoon, but the rest of the drives will be early/late. I'm not worried about me being able to deal with it, but we took the dog on this adventure, too.
The only thing that really goes bad is the compressor, it can't be more than 400 even at retail, snatch that thing off and let the Freon roam free, then just have someone refill it. You should kill to much wildlife.....just don't breathe the stuff in.
