is a cold air intake really that bad. i read what cobb had to say.. but i already bought one last week(woops) so would it be a HORRRRABLE idea installing it? ( i might need help)

    Hello again. :wavey:

    Which brand is it?

Hmmm... I know about short rams...
but I can't remember if CAI's will hurt you or simply not do anything at all.

I know that a short ram intake won't help (will hurt) unless you get it tuned though.

really this is a huge debate. but there plenty of poeple with cai that dont have problems. there a few on our boards that will chime in im sure. most of the problems with intakes are the ones that that are a larger diameter piping than the stock intake. the larger diameter doesnt let the maf read right. what cai did you get?

CAI is pretty much for sound unless you have EM and are tuned with the CAI installed even then, don't expect miracles (maybe 15hp crank?). so no, you shouldn't be hurting anything (as long as it's a good intake made for the wrx: perrin, injen, aem, ect.)... otherwise there maybe some "leaning" issues (i think cyl #3 is the notorious one).

i put an injen on, and got tired of the noise (and the fact that i drive through deep water sometimes and don't like the idea of hydralock-but it's very rare), so i took it off and put the stock box on with a 3" pvc to extend the inlet to the fender.

    just my .02

oh "bomz" is the name of the intake?? wow. uh not too sure about that, hope you didn't drop to much cash on it.

i know, everyone loves their injen but me  ...not that i disliked it much, it just didn't do anything for me. but that's personal preference.

well, what have you done to the handling so far? that would be a great place to start after the basic power mods.

Most of the cars I've seen that are relatively stock (no engine management) seem to lose HP with aftermarket intakes.

Pull your silencer and throw a K&N filter or something in there and it'll be cheaper and probably perform better than the aftermarket CAI.

Ya. Unfortunately, intakes are not a good first mod for a WRX. For some reason, people (myself included) seem to gravitate towards them as a first mod.

Getting a reflash, even if bone stock otherwise, will yield better gains than just exhaust + intake on a WRX. What is it about 40 whp with just a tune?

So engine management is a very good first mod (the best imo), especially with such good tuners around here. The only downside is the high initial cost.

Im a brand whore, just cause i dont like worrying about quality. I buy stuff i already know is good! I have an APS cold air intake. If i were to do it all again i would buy either the APS or the Injen. Scott Siegel could tell you some things about intakes. Basically short rams are hot air intakes, cold air intakes may not make much power but cold air is always better than hot.

I've had mine for about 8 months now with no problems... No noticable power gains, but I still love the whoosh + psuedo BOV noise....

I have the KnN typhoon intake, and while it sounds awesome, i don't think it's doing much for my STi. I got my car dyno last saturday and Tray thought that intake was hurting my performace since my car isn't tune for it. I'll stick it back on when i'm ready for ecutek but for now it's sitting in my garage. I had to take it off ever weekend for SCCA, it was not legal for AS.
