Looks like bearing failure. Did you get recall done way back in 03?

 

Seeing in his profile it's an 05 M3 so bearing should be issue. Seems like someone overrevved the daylights out of it or it was just a wild rare occurance.

Is it pretty easy to do apply the DiNoc?
I'm thinking of doing it for my new grille just so I don't have to go to a body shop to color match it.

 

It's not DiNoc.....I don't like DiNoc. This one you can actually feel texture that makes it feel like CF. Ask Alex where he got it as this came from him.

As far as applying, you have to prep the surface, clean it, spray glue, and apply. Easy to do.

Well we couldn't get the M3 tuned this week due to a rom that isn't available. So Doug is doing his thing and will be getting the right rom for me and I'll make another trip down to Atlanta.

However I was stoked to find out that my car is a VERY strong M3. I was told the car has not ever been flashed and I'm the 2nd owner so keep that in mind but my car made an astounding 294 hp. Doug said typical M3's make only 275-280 hp. 14 hp is a lot for an NA engine. The Dinan tuned M3 only made 280something on it's Dinan flash and Doug retuned it to 300+ (think it was 304 but it was between 300-310 hp). That car had exhaust, headers, pullies, intake. I ONLY have headers. So I'm stoked about that.

Stay tuned. I'll soon have rasp terminators on the car as the rasp in my exhaust is HORRIBLE.

Well my deaf self can't hear the rasp. But today my wife again whined about how it sounded.

My solution is a little different than Ken's. He got a terminator while I got two Magnaflow resonators. Ken and my products both came from Jack @ Custom Performance who is the go to person in BMW exhausts. Jack told me since I wanted to save any and all the hp I can and since I don't mind cutting and welding my stock pipes to go with the Mags. The rasp terminator is for people like Ken who don't want to cut their stock stuff for later.

 

I thought you said you got a Topspeed exhaust? (not the Topspeed we all love....the other Topspeed that makes knockoff exhausts )

Will soon. And I don't drive hard much at all anymore. We have been canoeing and doing outdoor stuff a LOT lately and I enjoy that way more than performance driving. That and I don't need to have a high strung performance car as my daily.

So I have a beater pickup truck I'm working on now (waiting on new fuel pump), getting something with more room and useability for a daily, and then after catching up on some other bills I'll pick up a toy of some sort since I'm also selling the bike. I'm thinking of going the route Rick did and convert a GC. But time will tell

it was a massive rod bearing failure. Motor had 2K miles, was new from dealer in 2009. This was also the 3rd motor for this car. :eek3:

 

That sucks. Well my worries with this car is gone now.....those worries are sitting in Chicago somewhere.

I'll start a new journal when/if I get another Subaru.
