Donor is an 06 WRX wrecked with 80K miles on it.
The motor will mostly be stock, with a header, up pipe, ACT clutch and flywheel, and an aftermarket intercooler.

Nice! I am working with another guy right now that we are in the midst of sourcing parts for. So far it's looking like we are going to do one of our short blocks with an 18G - should be pretty awesome!

This should be full of awesome ...

I saw you mentioned keeping the motor stock ... might I suggest some forged pistons if nothing else.

Why bother if he is keeping it stock?

What is the approximate weight once completed?

  16. bstuke

    bstuke Member

Thanks for the feedback on the pistons. Bottom line is compression is fine, 140PSI on all cylinders, and all the valves were in spec, so it is not coming apart.

The reason it is called 818 is it is supposed to weigh 818Kgs. I think it will be a little over, maybe 1800lbs instead of 1600lbs.

stock power levels at that weight will be more than enough to start out with.
    Congrats sir

Exactly. The frame has design features that will make it somewhat painless to get the engine out for overhaul. Plus there is plenty of room to work on the engine in the frame.

What timeframe are you hoping to have this up and running. Hopefully soon they come up with a hard top version of some sort. Seen the soft top and don't like it personally.

Bob I did know what Elena was talking about when she mentioned that the FF 818R was coming soon.

Till now, the whole tearing down of an Impreza, now make perfect since.

    Do you plan on auto-xing?

  22. bstuke

    bstuke Member

:) Yes I do plan on AutoXing it, as well as TT/Hillclimb. Thanks for all the help this weekend, it is appreciated.

Nice I wish I would have saved a bunch of parts from my old build like the brakes, spindles, arms, etc. Would have basically had everything I needed to build one of these. Not that I couldn't source those parts for dirt cheap, if only my wife would let me spend the $10K on the kit. :)

GRM has a great video series of their own build, they are expecting the final weight to be about 1900lbs.

There is a wrecked WRX in Columbia, AC for less than $5k and this was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. Is yours the street or track version?

  32. bstuke

    bstuke Member

Mine is the track version. But understand that the only real difference is the roll cage and no windshield. And it comes with a wing.

Hey guys, been really busy with so many other work and home projects, I decided to send the frame off and have it built to go kart. I will get it back in January so I can hang the body on it and get it ready for Dixie Solo. I hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Hey guys, yes my last name is Stuke. DIYAutoTune is off McGinnis Ferry right at the greenway.

It has the MS3Pro, and it was tuned by Wayne Presley at Very Cool Parts in Enterprise Alabama. It is now at DIY getting more firmware updates and tweaking.

A few videos. The first is shaking the car down at an AutoX event. It actually ran fine, and didn't break, fall apart or crash! that is more than I can say for others..

This video is a pull from the DIY Autotune guys sorting out the ECU. Ended up at 237HP but a whopping 290FtLb Torque.

Needs some alignment work. See you Friday..

PS. No LSD, it was hard to control, and I think muff even spun it once. I am used to the Cobra breaking loose so I am quicker on the foot, but still getting old!
