I think most of these guys are coming to get the seat time. Most people there would not be guys like you who have, relatively, a LOT of seat time already. Again, compared with most of these guys you have: 1) 10 to infinity times the seat time. Most of these guys have been to at most 1 event (so 10 times ) some this will be their first (infinitI) 2) more suspension 3) WAY more power We certainly could run more people. We could go as high as 32 people, so 4 groups of 8, everbody still gets 2 hours minimum. Really, with that many, some people won't want to be running at the end of the day, so the guys who want to run will get more time and some will be satisfied earlier. I just think that's more people on track than most of these guys want, but, post up guys, what do you think? SS
personally i'd prefer fewer on the track... i dont wanna deal with passing people since im a track newbie... as experience builds up, we could have more people running at future meets
i agree milo, but on a larger scale, i think as the club's experience/comfort level with running these things builds up, the more people could be on the track at one time. i would let it progress naturally. having the experienced guys there will be helpful, but it will be even more helpful to have more experienced guys out there the more we do this (which should happen by default). but indeed 2hrs track time is enough to roast most tires, brakes and concentration levels. i would love for this to become a monthly thing, i would image a "regular" group of guys would be showing up along with new folks.
This has ben our intent all along. And finally, we're making it happen. I think I said it somewhere in one of my earlier posts, but our intent here is to let these track days grow with us, as well as grow as the club's interest grows in track days. We will expand each event that much more to accomindate more experienced drivers, new members and everyone else in between. Ultimately, we would like to alternate which tracks we go to for these events. I feel like doing a weekend trip to roebling would be a fun event for the club. Not only do we have a small drive over there, we get to crash a hotel and then get some trackin' in :bigthumb: For now, we're sticking with 10-12 people for this event. I will make an early list in the first post of those interested. Cheers,
I'm still not buying it only because if I were in the first 10 that signed up, then all of you would have lil 'ol me to play with on the track. I personally HATE it when people are on my butt ready to make the next pass and if I were on track with you, that's what would be happening. With a Novice, Intermediate and Advanced class, you won't ever have the faster guys out there with the new guys. To me, that makes more sense. My first three times on a track was at Road Atlanta with a crap load of cars. Was I uncomfortable, hell yeah, but fear is your friend on tha track. Plus I was out there with other n00bs so that was reassuring. I'm not knocking you guys, though it may appear that way. Just pointing out other options. Oh, one last thing. When you have a track full of cars out there, it means ALOT to know that they are all your friends, vs some crazy peeps you have no idea about. I would respect you guys if we were on the track together and "back-off' if I were approaching you. Again, I'm no Scotty out there and never plan to be at that level of competition. I just like the twisties.
I am fairly experinced on track and at Little T I would just assume that we limit the number of cars on Track to 4 or 5. That way you can space the cars 15 seconds apart. I dont want to have to pass or be passed every lap. Matt
So whats the fun of being on track if you never get a chance to pass. At some point in your track life, it will have to happen. Might as well be among friends that you know and respect (visa-versa). I will add that with a Novice group, those guys are usualy limited to how fast they can go (pace car) and aren't allowed to pass so that they can learn the line and how their car and themselves react to the track. Also, If I were in the list of 10, you guys would have to deal with passing at some point during the day so the argument isn't there really. You will still get passed with 5 cars out there so "fewer" people at this event will not solve the problem with people not liking to be passed. It's not enough of a reason not to allow more people there since with the amount of people already signed up, passing will still happen. At some point, someone will be approaching someone else and need a point-by. ....and some of you guys auto-x so your comfort level sould be high in terms of what your car can and can't do. IMO
Its not really a matter of not wanting to get passed, its more a matter of having to pass. Passing means I have to slow down or wait on someone. I would like to get a few clean laps in. Its more about running laps and getting the car setup for some of the time attack events later this year. Matt
Trey, we're working towards that direction. Right now, we, I should say, I have little experience organizing the events and thus have asked Scott for his help. Expect everything to improve from here, but we have to start somewhere right? We're starting small and then will be expanding after we see how this works out. This is intended to just be a fun day on the weekend. No reason to be competitive about it. If that was the case, we wouldnt have it open. It would be restricted to drivers of that caliber, period. This isnt the case, so we're all just hopefully going to have a great time (all skill levels). I would hope that everyone has the full day to run clean laps and not concern themselves with passing or being passed, but rather enjoying their car and/or learning their new setups. I know I will be enjoying the JICs for the most part of the day, that's really my only goal (personal).
I need some feedback on whether Mon-Thurs works for people. If we wait until the last week in February, and Saturday March 4th is available I can get it on the "last-minute discount." I don't think Friday March 3rd is a good idea, right before the 500 member party, we'd have to start it at 8 pm So let's consider Thursday March 9th. How does that sound? SS
i dont see any problem with that ... unless i break my tranny at silver dollar on the 5th how bout the others?
March 4th works best for me, as I have to work during the week, as does my wife. How much is it per person if we don't wait until the last moment? -- Brian
I'm also gainfully employed, so weekends are preferred, but if enough notice is given then I might be able to work something out.
Well the weekend would be optimal for everyone of course, but in March, its looking like there isnt one open. Sundays are open, but also $2500 to rent the track out. Scott and I have been working dilligently to find a date that works for all. If we decide that it's going to be a saturday, then we'll just wait it out till we can get one.
BTW: If you want to run 20 cars at the track, the cost is an additional $1000. This is what the s2katlanta club is doing for their next event. -- Brian
Alex - Put Brian in my place. I have signed up for a RA day on the 4th so I don't mind waiting until the next time on this. -t
Gee thanks Bluebox. also: Auto Club Event / Driving School $1500.00 weekday, $1850.00 Friday, $2200.00 Sat or Sun Max10 cars on track at one time Timed events allowed No aggressive passing 1 Ambulance required Minimum 4 corner workers recommended Insurance certificate required Additional services available Ambulance ................................$600.00 ea. per day Main building / Classroom ..........$100.00 event Corner workers...........................$100.00 ea. per day Gate attendant...........................$100.00 ea. per day P.A. system................................$50.00 event So $2200 for Sat or Sun plus an extra $750 for the ambulance, PA and Classroom. I am in if there is room...with just a week or two notice any day is fine with me. I have every other Friday off and never work weekends. I have never been to the track but perhaps it will help tone down my daily commute terrorizing the streets of Marietta and Cobb. lol
D'oh, how did I miss this post until now?!??!?! Bah! That's what I get for only checking these boards once a week. =( Ah well, put me on the alternates list. I can be free Fri/Sat/Sun, and maybe other days with enough warning. And I agree w/ Milo & SS, 3 cars on the track (maybe 5 cars at the most) is about all that I'd want out right now. Even though it means I likely won't be able to go on this one. Most of us are all novices. I'd much rather we all have time to focus on hiting the right lines, not looking in the rearview mirror. -Laters! -Chris
The track is BOOKED There is an update in the first post. The price did go up, but I managed to book it now instead of having to wait until the week of... We can have *UP TO* 2 spectators per driver. They will have to sign in as crew. There is one caveat; we really can't have people coming in and out during the day. Technically there can't be "spectators" at a "test and tune" day. We can have "crew" but we shouldn't have more than maybe 2 cars that come in mid-day. Other than that, if people want to paypal me the deposits at siegelracing@hotmail.com or bring them by the shop or my house, we can get this rolling. This should be a blast. If anybody has any questions, feel free to contact me at any time. SS
If you didn't get on the list for this one and you still want to go to TGP, there is still 1 spot left for the S2000 Atlanta track day at TGP on April 1st, $160... or if you are just and addict like me, mere and stephen. Drop me a PM if you are interesting. Mere, Stephen (xn00dlesx) and I are going to this event also. -- Brian
I submitted the $90 deposit for this event for both Mere and I. Thanks to Alex and SS for putting this together! -- Brian
