mine's just a compression tester - honestly i'm not sure of the difference??? But, you're more than welcome to come grab it if you need it
compression tester reads in psi on the compression stroke, leak down reads how much psi bleeds by the rings or cracks in the piston
Oh well its not good. 40% on #4 and it sounds like it is all coming out the crank case. #1 was right at 20% which isn't too bad in my opinion for a cold motor with forged pistons. The stock piston 2.5 long block on the engine stand in my garage was at 5% Looks like I have some decisions to make. I'll be putting together a for sale thread here soon once I figure out what I am going to do. I'm going to keep the car for sure. It is just a matter of how far back to stock I decide to go. Anybody have a 2.5 laying around with bad pistons they want to sell?
nope, ball and i did a comp test on the motor...the rings are fine, they're $1000 rings on that motor, wasn't worried about that. Did a comp test to show the motor was healthy so I could sell Shitty, mike, sorry to hear, buddy. I'll have a list of shit left over from my rebuild...I'm sure you have most of it, but whatever you don't have you're more than welcome to pillage
Good news Not the ringlands this time. Bad news The #4 cylinder has some groves noticeable to the touch running from the full length of the piston travel on the top and bottom of the cylinder. Same groves are on #2 but they are not noticiable to the touch. This means my pistons are worthless because they will be even looser if I overbore. I now have 3 mahle 4032 pistons (powerpak) and 4 mahle 2618 (pro series) pistons that I can't use
