I guess I should specify too this cars real purpose.

It is not going to be a dyno queen, track monster or any other extreme (it will never be dragged for sure). It will be built for the purpose of daily driving and mountain runs, so while I like the numbers...the useable powerband is what I am really after while keeping everything safe. After the 1.5Dom...the car will most likely be done powerwise to keep reliability high and stress on the 5 speed at a minimum. (although those are probably the max power loads it can handle)

If...by chance...I end up with a different daily driver at some point in time...I'll drop a used 6 speed in it and go to town.

Your warranties already blown since you've gotten it tuned...

    Do it now ;-)

haha! Trust me...I've thought about it. I haven't gone too extreme yet...so there is still hope.

Video of your car on dyno? Might as well have a warranty in China. :wiggle:

And Subaru North America is on this forums. Your warranty is already dead my friend.

There is a guy on NASIOC with a stage 2 STI that got his entire engine replaced under warranty. It completely depends on the situation. Also...hopefully I'll have zero need for it anyway. At 12,000+ miles already...warranty is normally a distant memory for me as it is...that is why I don't buy extended warranties on anything I buy. It is up too soon.

And...if something goes wrong with the electricals...they are not going to say they aren't going to fix it because of my downpipe.

Sure, and there's also a guy on IWSTI right now on his second motor threatening to sue SOA, further lowering the chances for any and all legitimate future warranty claims for the rest of us.

That I don't agree with. You mod knowing the risks. If it gets covered...great. If it doesn't...you took the risk so pay.

I'm pretty sure all bets are off on the power train warranty by that point! Of course...if a power window motor went bad you still would have been covered.

I wouldn't say that there wasn't much gained those are pretty big gains before peak torque, and 10-15whp across the top is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

I'm not so sure anyone was issuing a blanket statement. However, its great to see you back Ken ;)

So was the Torqued Performance tune an email tune?

  19. rsutton1223

    rsutton1223 Obsessed Supporting Member

    It was.

That's not much considering that was an email tune. This is not a statement against Topspeed.....it's a statement saying that for an email tune, that was a pretty dang good email tune.

Not arguing that point at all. Eric at Torqued is know for doing a great job for GR owners. However, the difference in the way the car drives is more than noticeable.

Nothing beats a custom tune in person....there was no way Eric could email tune than as if he was in the car while doing pulls. Sure over a couple logs and such he could dial it in better but that's annoying. Using Cobb's on the fly tweaking system it's very easy to dial in the car to what it wants for smoothness and saftey.

He did an incredible job with the information he had. The service I got out of him was incredible. No complaints there at all. As you said...nothing beats pulling over and over again on the dyno to really dial things in.

I'm envious of your car.....it's so clean, well thought out, and one good looking WRX!

    Keep up the good work.

    Thanks!

I made the decision this morning to do a couple more small accents to the exterior along with the suspension. I think...after that...it should pretty much look exactly the way I have pictured in my head. Then it will just be a wait until the warranty is up.

There will be the urge to keep messing with things...but I want to keep the clean look of the car instead of cluttering it up just because I don't want to leave well enough alone. It's a hard thing to do with these cars! You feel like you always need to be messing with something.

I know how you feel. I went from lip kits to sponsored graphics to full bumper kits and in the end stock with a limited lip and no graphics looked the best. But you are always looking for that one extra thing to make it stand out.

may I suggest getting into model car building in the mean time. that way there will be less heartache when something goes terribly wrong and with a crumb snatcher on the way it may be the only affordable option. That goes for you to Cool. :naughty:

It will be done in stages. The idea is to find a reputable kit and do a mix of old school and new. Make it look like an original with a 427 Cobra Jet but then use more modern suspension and other bits to make it handle like it is on rails. This is will be one of those 'over several years' projects as we really want to build one exactly to how we want it.

It has been her favorite car since she was a kid.

yeah I know how that is, have a 12'x12' floating dock with a 70lb trolling motor. Only way I could have a comfortable chair, lazy-boy on a 14' Johnboat wasn't very stable.

Mine Too!!! The old Fiero engine swap was a proof of concept project that I could tackle such a build.

I wouldn't have the patience though.... the FFR kits are too cramped as they are of original dimensions. I really like the option Lone Star gives for the vacation build....
    7 day vacation build

Plus their kit is "stretched" a bit so there is actual room between the pedals for my feet to hit one at a time....

According to my wife, the burnt ti looked really cool but it didn't match the rest of what I had done to the interior. I went to all of the trouble to keep everything black and red to introduce something blue.

When she is right...she is right.

So why not have Chris @ WC Lathe burn your TI knob one solid color for ya? Perhaps red?

I am digging the silver actually. The burnt look was easy to polish off and I can always torch it and experiment with other combos. That is the beauty of ti!

Thanks! I might end up taking off the black and going back to carbon if I find a cheap CF lip or have this one hydrocoated. I haven't decided yet...

Those look sick man. Do yourself a favor and have the CF parts clearcoated with the best you can find. Else the CF will fade and turn yellow and chalky white if you decide to sport the CF.
