Guys well its decided, our new president is Obama, just to save some time everyone take half thier years salary go in you back yard and burn it. or you can just drive 150 miles an hour down the highway and let it all out the window. ill let you use your discretion on that.

Well isn't this a sad thread.

I didn't vote for the guy (voted independent), and I don't agree with everything he stands for, but I do think this is what the country needs right now. Even if he absolutely sucks it up, it will be a kick in the ass to the republicans to get their act together. I'm extremely excited.

So who all lives downtown/midtown? People are going nuts. Haha, it reminds me of being in Berlin this summer when Germany won a big game in the Euro Cup.

You have to ask yourself how bad is your candidate is if he loses to a socialist muslim extremists baby killer who hangs around terrorists?

I came up with 5 options. I am sure there are more.
    1. Your candidate has the same moral compass as Jeffery Dahmer
    2. The majority of people in this country are socialist muslim extremists baby killers who hang around terrorists
    3. You get your information from a biased news entertainment source and neither candidate is actually a bad guy.
    4. ACORN. (be carefult not to mock community organizers. especially when they are set up to get out the vote)
    5. He made a horrible vp choice and sold his soul to the same people he called agents of intolerance and alienated the truly fiscal conservative.

feel free to add your own.

I agree with #5. I think the choice to go with Palin killed it for McCain. Esp when he had the choice to get the guy from PA to be his running mate and he could've turned the tables with that electoral vote there.

Fair tax ftw...with some kind of restriction to keep big businesses from buying California.

Maybe then all the illegal immigrants living in Cobb county could do more to contribute to the welfare of this nation...

I hate our taxing system. It's all setup to tax the crap out of the middle class people like myself when the upper class people aren't getting taxed as high because they themselves are supporting the politicians and putting money in the politicians pockets. I think big business should get taxed more because they can freaking afford it.

Just like the freaking bailout thing.....it helped big business when I think they should have gave that money to us middle class with student loans and crap to help us pay them off since we are the ones that are actually trying to make something of ourselves but are barely getting by to pay off student loans and such due to stupid high interests.

i have neither the time nor the patience in me right now... just know that the next 4-8 years aren't going to be nearly as earth shattering as many seem to feel (unless something really bad happens to obama).

the republicans in-office did this to themselves.

I agree that the republicans in-office now did this to themselves and did a horrible job.

However I'm getting very highly pissed with what is going on around here today. All the blacks are jumping around screaming 'Black power...we finally have a black man in office'. It's sickening that they are throwing a freaking racial card around here.....grow up people.

****DISCLIAMER**** I am NOT racist a bit. Most of my friends are of another race albeit black, Indian, Native american, etc. I had NO objection on voting for Obama if I agreed with his views and agenda. I could care less if a purple man was running for president.

Exactly. People are acting like the US just elected a Nazi zombie sent from the underworld through a collaborative effort of Satan, Sadam, and Vigo the Carpathian whose goal is to eat the souls of every man, woman, child, and pet.

It's a fucking democratic president. Get over it.

I agree that it's a shame anyone is playing the race card, but it was bound to happen in this election, regardless of who won.

And just for the record, I didn't vote for Obama. I'm just appalled by so much of the overreaction I've seen everywhere in last 12 hours.

^ we've reached a milestone in this country, on several levels... you're just seeing people deal with it in their own way (albeit some weirder/slanted than others)... it'll wear off in a little while.

it was not too long ago those people would have been fire-hosed off the streets for behaving in that manner... there are far more (important) things to be stressed over.

Completely disagree. Taxing big business is just going to hurt the consumer when they jack up prices. Higher earning individuals already pay more in taxes, but why should they have to pay a higher percentage based on income? Get rid of the damn brackets and tax everyone the same. The top 2% of earning Americans already pay 98% of the taxes...

Completely agree. All they did was put a bullshit bandaid on giant gash and did nothing to assess the actual problem.

No matter what your views on the election are, we have a new president. I agree he's not my choice, but there's nothing I can do about it for another four years. I'm at least going to give him a chance and see what he can do...hopefully others feel the same.

And about the race card, it is total crap...however, the race card was going to be pulled either way. If Obama wins = black power. If Obama loses = some white plot to oppress black people. Forget about skin color, people...I agree with whoever said 'Grow up people'. If nothing else, hopefully Obama does a good enough job to help unite the country a little more.

    AGREED
they simply pass it on or move the fuck out of the US! We are already have the second highest tax on business just behind Japan. That is why they set up shop in other countries.

If Obama follows through on his promises of paying taxes is "patriotic" we will soon be in a depression.

I am going to think positive here and HOPE that his being the first african american president that he has something to prove. By this I mean he has always been a follower of his party but now being the leader perhaps he can lead in the right direction.

This isn't too bad... look at the bright sides; we don't have to pay taxes ever again, we'll get anything we've ever wanted, we don't have to pay our bills, and the government is now going to do everything for me.

Yep, life is on cruise control now... I'm off to Home Depot to buy a bigger mail box. I'm sure the one I have now isn't big enough to hold all the money I'm going to get over the next 8 wonderful years. Oh crap! I just realized we're going to get soooo much money from the government it's going to push us all into that upper income bracket and we'll lose everything! So that's the master plan....

Partially true but with all the deductions the effective tax rate US corporations pay is significantly less than the statutory rate.

I am independent but I was surprised when the Republican administration made up for what little tax break (none to the middle class by the way) by lining wall streets failed banking industry pockets with absolutely no accountability and then went a step further and socialized the banking system. People get their terms conservative and liberal confused. Republicans are socially conservative and fiscally liberal. Democrats are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. From a theoretical perspective conservatism means more control or to maintain. Liberalism means less control, to free. Over the past eight years the Republican run administration has taken a fiscally liberal approach in freeing capitalists from government regulation. When disaster struck they turned into fiscal socialists with your money. I guess the questions is, do you want your tax dollars to go to badly managed government funded public services, or failed bankers and white collar crooks that do not return the wealth to their own country? Both parties are essentially epic failures. The truth is if you’re worried about socialism at least with the two party system you can either get it served up through public policy or through fiscal policy by either party.

For all extents and purposes this is a Republic not a Democracy i.e. the electoral college. To look at either party from a truly didactic perspective (making moral observations), you have to delete liberal and conservative from the conversation. Neither party is either or, but the sum of both. They only use these terms to appeal to the public which is swayed by sweeping generalizations and propaganda. THE ONLY TRUE TAX SYSTEM THAT WILL WORK IS THE FAIR TAX. If you think you will get true conservatism out of either party I have bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

The problem with all of this is even the effective tax rate is higher than the cost of sending the work overseas. (Most) Americans are too lazy to do the cheap labor needed to make this society work...hell, we can't even keep fast food restaurant employees honest and dependable (for the most part...trying not to stereotype too much).

Big corporations are going to save a lot more money, both in labor costs and law suits, by sending these jobs overseas than any tax break will ever show.

  42. 07Ltd#767

    07Ltd#767 The Neighborhood Drunk

Agreed, and I love all these dumbshit commercials talking about how 'your bag of groceries will be $10 more' and blah blah blah. Yeah, you're right...sales tax will be upwards of 20-25%; however, with the loss of corporate taxes the consumer goods will drop in price. In theory (THEORY), you would be paying the same for everything that you are now, because hopefully big business will pass on their tax savings to the end user.

And what a nice place this country would be come March / April if there was no freaking IRS...:wavey:

Fair Tax would be awesome but it'll never happen. It creates too many more problems than it fixes. Also there are many more reasons for corporations to be in the US than simple tax rates. If they thought it would be more cost effective for them to be somewhere else they'd already be there but things like labor laws, our corporate law structure, tax brakes ect. keep them here.

^^ I agree, lets support him and see what he can do.... That being said, I don't think much will change for our day to day lives at all.. Over the last 8 years, where our president was "so bad.. :(" according to everyone, my life has been good! I drive a sweet car, have a good job, a roof over my head, and a lil change in my pocket. Any financial woes I have are my fault, not the state of the economy or the president. The only thing I can say truly affected me personally over the last 8 years was the high gas, which in turn raised food prices(which hopefully will go back down a smidge with cheap gas). The only thing that scares me is the taxing big corporations(I work for a huge one). I think this is a terrible idea. My company has been spared mostly by all of the layoffs and has not resorted to sending jobs overseas. I fear with higher taxes it might push them over the edge, which I feel will happen more now all over America.
That being said, work is going to be "interesting" over the next few weeks.. My department is about 90% black, and I'd imagine their in histarics right now. I won't be back till Friday so hopefully it'll cool down a lil. But on that front, I'll take them being happy FOR ONCE, and they can STOP BITCHING about Bush. Its really all people talk about and its really annoying. Whats really going to be interesting is when nothing truly changes and their lives still suck due to personal choices... I'd imagine the company line will then change to "Bush fucked it up so bad, Obama couldn't fix it..."
But as I said, its done... lets try'n be optimistic.... and get our troops outta harms way without looking like a bunch of lil bitches.. I'm out.
