Uh, guys, it's this month. Right now I'm going to consider it 10 people, standard track day.
Chris called me last night, but I think Alex is still wanting to go on the 25th, so it will be full...

For now it's 10 people. I know I can bring 4 or 5 others, but unless I can get 5 more deposits this week from here, we'll just call this one 10 people...

How about having a g2g of brake fluid change before the track day?? we only have about a week. Brake fluid change is a must for any track event.

Good recommendation. And check how much pad you have left too. If possible, upgrade to good pads. Brake fade sucks.

For those who've been to TGP whats the typical lap time for an sti?

  15. Alex

Not that timing equipment is present, but on the old course 70s or less was a solid new driver time.

  16. 4sevens

    4sevens Member

Whaaat? No timing equipment? Let me see what I can come up with. :D

Monday AM and I'm planning my week. What's the schedule on Friday? Meeting places and times, etc.

Is there air for tires there, or should I make sure to get some extra air in before I leave? How close to the track is the nearest gas station?

    DD

    miloman Retired Admin

I don't think air is provided by the track. It's best to bring your own or borrow someone's pump.

    A couple miles.

Generally, its wake up early, meet at McDonalds off 20 (the exit # escapes me). Chill there, eat for about 15 minutes, get gas if you need it and jump on the road. We should arrive at the track around 9 to 9:30 full on gas, etc and ready to go. By 10, Id imagine we will have people actually out there on the track.

Is there 115v AC power at the pit and paddocks area?

There is power, bathrooms, and a water hose, but other than that we need to bring it.

We meet at 7am at the McDonalds at Fulton Industrial Blvd. It's the first exit on 20, outside the perimeter. I think it's #49. The McD's is just South of 20. The arches are visible from the exit. We will leave there at 7:30:00. When we get to exit 185 in AL, we will get off and fill up at the Shell just south of 20. We should be able to roll up at the track near 9am EST...

We'll bring in the BBQ near 12:30 or so.

The nearest gas station is a few miles down the road, if you plan on running a lot, it's a good idea to bring a few 5 gallon gas cans...

anyone willing to take me as a guest ?? :)

I've never been to a track and I would like to get involved..perhaps driving in one of those cars are the best way to start...no?

    hehe

  24. 4sevens

    4sevens Member

jyang, I think you have to pay to drive right? Otherwise you can ride shotgun I think.

I'm all squared away except I need a helmet. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I
can pick one up? Pepboys had some. I checked them out and they are not certified for autox.
I figure I might as well pick up a good one somewhere. Any suggestions?

I looked up summit racing and discovery parts. They are both 1.5 hours away!
I looked online and they're pricey and I don't know what to get.

What about used helmets? Does anyone have one they want to get rid of? :D

siegel usually has 'loaners" you can borrow. you can also try on a few people's helmets to see if there's a style/weight/type you like.

  30. 4sevens

    4sevens Member

Oh good... theres so many styles and type out there.

So it's okay to show up at the event without a helmet?

I have my moments, I was just having fun at this one. I do way to many serious track days, I Don't ever get to just go and throw the car around like that. I'm looking foward to the next one.
I hope everyone that got a ride along had a good time.

Unfortunately I had to bail early, however, that didnt stop me from having any fun with the car! It was a great day, and man...the sun takes it out of you. I got back, went to graduation then passed out.

For those that missed this, or who may just be eager to get back out there Scott and I are in the midst of planning another track event for the summer (perhaps, July).

Thank you to everyone who participated :)

I sure learned a lot. I'm sure I'll be back for more in the near future.

Alex - yeah the sun really beats you up. I drank at least 10 bottles of water and
never had to visit the mens room!

Anyway, my bro and I applied some of our forensics skills on the videos and pictures that we took
and we came up with a bunch of laptimes! Keep in mind these are only accurate to the second. :D

I know my times in the morning are abysmal. But by the end of the day I improved by almost
10s. I wish I recorded my last run near closing. Those were my hottest laps.

Its amazing how fast you can go with a little coaching.
